💡 Background
With the renaming of Facebook to Meta, the idea of the Metaverse has gained enormous momentum. More and more work is being done to build the metaverse or metaverses of the future. As a result, an increasing number of new companies are entering the market with their own products and services. In the near future, there could be millions of different avatars and visually improving metaverses. But what is the advantage if their assets are not on a SQL database but on the blockchain? The advantage only comes to fruition when the assets have their value not only in a publisher ecosystem but are transferable. This requires open standards that ensure interoperability!
🦾Who We Are
The Chair for Strategy and Organization is focused on research with impact. This means we do not want to repeat old ideas and base our research solely on the research people did 10 years ago. Instead, we currently research topics that will shape the future. Topics such as Agile Organizations and Digital Disruption, Blockchain Technology, Creativity and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Business Model Innovation, Diversity, Education: Education Technology and Performance Management, HRTech, Leadership, and Teams. We are always early in noticing trends, technologies, strategies, and organizations that shape the future, which has its ups and downs.

- Which factors determine a successful standard?
- How could you establish one yourself?
- Are there other ways to achieve interoperability?
- Do we need open standards?
- Make your results visible

Web3, Interoperability and the Metaverse
For some people, Web3 is the metaverse. To others, it is completely mysterious, bound-up in a lot of crypto systems that seem opaque to newcomers. As I've written about in the past, the metaverse is the real-time, activity-based Internet.

Metaverse, Standards and Interoperability - Metapunk
A few years ago I wrote a piece on Forbes about the number of competing standards in the Internet of Things (IOT) industry. At the time there were 10 major factions fighting to become the standard for IOT, 6 vendors, in reality, controlling the outcome of the Internet of Things and they had a joint market cap* of $670 billion (*as of 2015, things have changed a lot!).
