It is important to make new connections which extand your existing network. You call these people „weak ties“: They are the counterpart to your strong ties (family, best friends, favorite co-worker). Weak ties are important to your network because they also have a large entwork that can give you new perspectives and impressions. Over time, you become more and more like your close friends, and even your circles of friends get to know each other and resemble each other. Therefore, new, loose contacts are an important factor in expanding one's network in the long term.
