We are excited to be co-hosting this Mini-track as part of the “Knowledge Innovation and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems” Track at the 60th HICSS conference
We cordially invite you to submit your research papers to our "The Transformation of Entrepreneurial Ecosystems through Deep Tech Ventures" minitrack, as part of the "Knowledge Innovation and Entrepreneurial Systems" track at the 60th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-60), taking place from 5th to 8th January 2027 on Big Island (Hawaii)!
As entrepreneurial systems undergo rapid shifts, Deep Tech entrepreneurship, including startups i.a. in artificial intelligence, robotics, space tech, quantum, semiconductors, and biotechnology, has emerged as a primary force shaping the next wave of innovation. Unlike traditional digital innovation, Deep Tech operates at the intersection of scientific discovery, technical feasibility, and cross-boundary knowledge creation.
This minitrack seeks to address critical research gaps regarding how Deep Tech ventures drive the renewal and transformation of entrepreneurial ecosystems. While cooperation with traditional ventures is well-documented, we have limited knowledge regarding how ecosystem actors create, translate, evaluate, and integrate science-based technologies under high uncertainty.
Research to submit
We welcome conceptual, empirical, and methodological contributions that explore these dynamics across strategic, organizational, and technological dimensions. To reflect the increasing interdependence of these fields, this track is open to both the Information Systems and Management Science communities. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Emerging trends, definitions, and taxonomies of Deep Tech innovation
- Corporate venturing and Deep Tech collaboration models for knowledge transfer
- Ecosystem transformation through Deep Tech adoption
- Governance, resource dependence and success factors of multi-actor collaborations
- Ecosystem Actor Capability and Attribute Developments
- Cultural and structural enablers of corporate–venture collaboration
- Scaling technology transfer in hardware-intensive Deep Tech ecosystems
- Business model innovation and value-chain transformation through science-based technologies
- Innovation ecosystems and platform approaches for frontier technologies
- Metrics and performance assessment of Deep Tech initiatives
- Regulatory, strategic, and implementation challenges in Deep Tech entrepreneurship
- Information systems perspectives on data, infrastructure, and governance for Deep Tech adoption
