Professor of Business Administration at the Technical University of Munich, where he holds the Chair of Management Accounting. He is also the Dean of the TUM School of Management.
Helmut Krcmar is an information systems and management scholar and head of the Research Group Krcmar at the Faculty of Informatics at TUM since 2020. He is Founding Dean and Delegate Officer of the president for TUM Campus Heilbronn.

Paul Gompers
It is my great honor to welcome Paul Gompers as our first keynote speaker at the GVC on the topic of “Gender and Diversity in the Venture Capital Ecosystem”.
Paul is the Eugene Holman Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School and has an appointment in both the Finance and Entrepreneurial Management areas. Paul is a truly interdisciplinary scholar with a Bachelor degree in Biology, a Master degree in economics, and a PhD in business economics. His impressive research, which is published in the most prestigious academic journals and nearly 50.000 citations in google scholar, focuses on entrepreneurial finance, venture capital and private equity and also incorporates research on personal factors such as diversity of founders or friendship. In one of his recent studies, together with Ilya Straebulaev, they surveyed 900 venture capitalists making this survey of VCs the most comprehensive to date. Among other insights, the survey found that VCs deem the founding management team to be most critical. Paul has also developed numerous educational case studies and other teaching material about entrepreneurial finance and related topics. We are so honored to have you here at GVC, Paul!
Ilya Strebulaev
It is my privilege to introduce Ilya Strebulaev, giving a keynote about the “Valuation of VC-Backed Companies and Predicting Venture Success”.
Ilya is the David S. Lobel Professor of Private Equity and Professor of Finance at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. He also is the founder and director of the Stanford GSB Venture Capital Initiative. He graduated from the London Business School with a doctorate in Finance. He holds a Bachelor and a Master in Economics from Lomonosov Moscow State University and the New Economic School in Moscow. Ilya is an expert in corporate finance, venture and angel capital, innovation financing, corporate innovation, and financial decision-making. His work has been widely published in leading academic journals featured in a variety of media, including the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. His work has been awarded a number of prestigious academic awards, including the First Paper Prize of the Brattle Award for the best corporate paper published in the Journal of Finance, the Fama-DFA Prize for the best asset pricing paper published in the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Trefftzs Award by the Western Finance Association. Youyou Wu
Now, please join me in giving a very warm welcome to Youyou Wu who will tell us “What Computers can Teach us about Personality Assessment”
Youyou Wu is a Lecturer or Assistant Professor in Social Psychology at University College London. She received her BA in Psychology and Mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Cambridge. She was also a postdoctoral researcher at Northwestern Institute of Complex Systems at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Youyou studies personality expression in the digital space, using computational methods like machine learning and natural language processing. In one of her groundbreaking studies, which was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, she shows that personalities inferred from people’s Facebook profiles are more accurate than judgements made by friends, roommates, family members, and romantic partners. Youyou, we are so excited to have you here today at GVC.

It is my pleasure to introduce our three distinguished panelists who will talk about “Leveraging Data in the Investment Evaluation” with Riccarda.
As first panelist, we welcome Dr. Andre Retterath. He is a Partner in Earlybird’s Munich Office and focuses on enterprise software with a particular interest in developer, data and productivity tools, alongside AI-centric products and robotics. Before transitioning into VC in 2017, he gained more than 5 years of experience as a process automation and predictive maintenance engineer at ThyssenKrupp and further insights as a management consultant at GE North America. Andre holds a Ph.D. from TUM on the topic of "Machine learning and the value of data in venture capital", a master’s degree in management, and a bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering. He was educated at Harvard University, University of Cambridge and Georgia Institute of Technology, among others, and we’re happy to have him here today at his alma mater.
As our second panellist, we welcome Dr. Francesco Corea. Francesco is the Research Lead at Balderton Capital, where he uses data, analytics and machine learning to scout and assess new companies. He has a Bachelor in Management, two Master degrees, one in Economics and one in Finance, and a PhD in Economics. He is also the author of five books on AI and was rated by Forbes among the 30 under 30 influencing global money flow. Francesco is very much a citizen of the world and we’re thrilled to have him here today at GVC.
And as our third panelist, we welcome Rob Kniaz. Rob is a Partner at Hoxton Ventures and holds board positions in numerous companies. As a dual US/UK national, he holds a Bachelor in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and a Masters degree in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford University. He spent most of his career in Silicon Valley and came to London in 2008 to join the investments team at Fidelity Ventures, focusing on consumer internet and software-as-a-service sectors. Prior to Fidelity, he was on the new business development team at Google and was previously a lead product manager for AdSense's front-end systems. We’re excited to have him join our panel today at GVC.

I am very pleased to introduce Dr. Alex von Frankenberg, Patrick Lanz, and Dr. Patrick Ohler who will share quick insights on original, impactful, and latest topics in venture capital and ventures.
Dr. Alex von Frankenberg has been Managing Director of High-Tech startup fund since 2005 and has worked in the venture capital and start-up scene since 2000. He studied at the University of Mannheim and the University of Texas at Austin, earning his doctorate in Mannheim on the subject of establishing de facto technology standards. He was venture manager at the Siemens Technology Accelerator, Head of Sales and Marketing at an IT start-up, project manager at Siemens Management Consulting, and developed complex IT systems for the payment market at Andersen Consulting.
Patrick Lanz is an Associate at Primepuls, a Private equity firm investing in tech-based companies. He studied Management and Economics at the Free University of Bozen. He was on the board of pro students for business and worked in the center of excellence for data and analysis at KPMG Lighthouse Germany.
Dr. Patrick Oehler is co-founder and managing director of Retorio, a tech startup based in Munich that offers AI-supported video interviews. From short application videos, Retorio's artificial intelligence (AI) recognizes the communication behavior and important personality traits of applicants and reliably identifies suitable candidates. Patrick holds a Bachelor in information-oriented business administration from the University of Augsburg, a Master in Management and Strategy from the London School of Economics, and a Ph.D. in organizational research from the Chair of Strategy and Organization at TUM.
Nicki Breugst
I am excited to welcome Nicola Breugst who will be talking about “Realizing the entrepreneurial dream with an entrepreneurial team”.
Nicki is a professor entrepreneurial behavior at TUM. She studied psychology at the university of Munich and completed her PhD in entrepreneurship at the university of Jena. In her research, she focuses on the people side of entrepreneurship such as cognition, motivation and emotion in the entrepreneurial process and the social and economic background of company founders. Her research has been published in the top-tier entrepreneurship journals and she received awards for best paper, research excellence, and excellence in reviewing. We’re fortunate to have her here today at GVC.
Prof. Barbara Frederickson
It is my honor and privilege to introduce Barbara Frederickson who has sent us a video on “The Value of Positive Social Connections for Venture Success” that she specifically recorded for GVC.
Barbara is the Kenan Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Director of the Positive Emotions and Psychophysiology Laboratory (a.k.a., PEP Lab). She earned her undergraduate degree from Carleton College and her doctorate from Stanford University. She is a leading scholar within social psychology, affective science, and positive psychology, and she has received more than 16 consecutive years of research funding from the National Institutes of Health. Her remarkable research and teaching have been recognized with numerous honors, including the American Psychological Association's inaugural Templeton Prize in Positive Psychology, the Society for Experimental Social Psychology's Career Trajectory Award, and the inaugural Christopher Peterson Gold Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the International Positive Psychology Association. Her academic work has over 100.000 citations in google scholar and she is also the author of two books on Positivity and Love 2.0. We’re delighted that she contributed a video talk for GVC.
Ali Tamaseb
I am thrilled to introduce Ali Tamaseb who recorded an interview with Lukas sharing “What 30,000 data points reveal about how billion-dollar startups were different from the rest”. Ali is a partner at Data collective, or DCVC, which is a highly reputable venture capital firm in Silicon Valley with over 3 billion USD under management. He holds several leadership and board positions at companies both globally and across the US. He holds a degree in biomedical engineering from Imperial College London and studied general management at Stanford University. Ali was an honoree of the British Alumni Award, and Imperial College President’s Medal for Outstanding Achievement. Ali is also the author of the best-seller book “ Super Founders: What Data Reveals About Billion-Dollar Startups” which is already translated into six languages. It took him four years to collect the data and his analysis is based on 15 years of historical data, surveys, and interviews with founders. The results summarized in his book shows several counter-intuitive and shocking insights about what makes billion-dollar startups.

I am very pleased to welcome Philipp Hofsommer from the CDTM and Dr. Philipp Gerbert and Antoine Leboyer who will give quick insights on venture at TUM.
Philipp Hofsommer joined the CDTM management team in January 2019. He studied Management at the university of Munich and at EMLYON Business School after his preceding dual bachelor studies in Business Administration majoring in Banking & Finance. The Center for Digital Technology and Management is a joint institution of the university of Munich and the technical university of Munich and offers talented students the international and interdisciplinary study program Technology Management. CDTM also creates the most startups in Germany in relation to its number of students.
Since 2020, Dr. Philipp Gerbert is the Director at appliedAI, Germany's leading artificial intelligence initiative, as well as Future Shaper at the UnternehmerTUM innovation and startup center. Philipp is a quantum physicist and received his degree from the university of Munich and the Max Planck Institute in Munich. He earned a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and worked as a fellow at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA). Philipp has longstanding consulting experience in the area of technology-based business innovation and has worked in several prominent positions at the Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey, and the McKenna Group in Silicon Valley, among others.
Antoine Leboyer is the managing director of TUM Venture Labs for Software and artificial intelligence. Antoine holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an engineering degree from Centrale- Suplec in France. He was President and CEO of Software Editor GSX from 2008 to 2021, which was sold to Martello Technologies (MTLO.V) and where Antoine is a member of board. He also serves as an advisor to various start-ups and entrepreneurs.
